When the rainy days come, some runners choose to stay home and wait for the weather to improve. On the other hand, others decide to run, rain or sunbathe. But is it okay to run when it rains? In this post we will try to solve all doubts about running and rain.
Running in the rain isn't bad
You read that right, running in the rain is neither a problem nor a risk. Rain is usually an excuse for runners who lack motivation or aren't convinced to run, but the reality of running shouldn't be influenced by weather conditions. Obviously it won't be the same between a little rain and torrential rain that doesn't allow us to move easily. Excess water can affect the grip of our shoes and cause us to lose our balance. Extremely wet terrain makes sports impractical even for the best prepared.

1. Running shoes
There are a lot of running shoes out there, and there are a huge number of different makes and models. Everyone chooses what suits their training, step type, weight or purse, but the best thing to do in the rain is to use good running shoes that ensure the lowest possible moisture content. The important thing is not water, but moisture. Runners' feet should be kept cool and dry for as long as possible, which is why our shoes should be breathable. It is also important to consider the type of sole of our shoes. It is advisable to choose the best possible grip to avoid slipping.
Tip: If you're not sure what shoes to use, running shoes are usually a great option. This type of shoe is designed to provide stability and security on the most unstable terrain.
2. Running clothes
The choice of running gear always depends on the duration of training and the intensity of the rain. If you decide to run in the rain, the best thing to do is to wear light, breathable clothing. Windbreaker is a good choice. Hats can also be very useful, removing droplets from the face and improving vision.
Tip: Avoid cotton shirts, they absorb rain quickly and gain a lot of weight. It is recommended to protect the most sensitive areas with Vaseline or other products to prevent irritation and itching. Try to wear things that are reflective or enhance visibility, the idea is to avoid risks.
The rain changes the terrain and makes racing difficult. Therefore, we must bear in mind that our usual methods can be much more dangerous. Try to run in safe places, places where water does not accumulate and the ground is stable. In wetlands, it is easier to experience strain, sprain, and falls.
Tip: On rainy days, you can go out and train in the city. Remember that when it rains, there are fewer people on the street and therefore running on the sidewalks is more fun.
4. Electronic devices
Use waterproof compartments to store your tools and prevent them from getting wet. Try not to carry devices such as MP3s or music players, they may damage and distract you from the race. It is recommended to bring as few items as possible.
