How many steps should we take each day?

You can read everywhere that there are 10,000 recommended steps a day to stay in shape for the long term! This step number corresponds to approximately 7 km. Of course, there are a lot of benefits to walking, though

 that goal seems hard to achieve for many of us, especially sedentary ones. The good news is, a Harvard Medical School study found that 7500 isn’t enough.

How do you count your daily steps?

There are two solutions to find out how many steps you take per day:

From the number of kilometers and according to your pedometer. The average step is 50 to 80 cm

 measures between. If you walk 65 cm and walk 5 km a day, multiply the number of kilometers by 100,000 to get the distance in centimeters (500,000) and divide by 65 to get the average steps over this distance: this is about 7692.

Thanks to a pedometer watch or application on your phone: taking into account your height, described earlier, it will automatically figure out the number of steps you take during the day.

What’s behind the number of recommended steps…

The number of steps per day is actually a recommendation for exercise! But when the opportunity or time for exercise

 there is a lack of things to do, it is a good idea to extend your journey on foot or choose to walk rather than another mode of transport. If walking doesn’t appeal to you any more, get all the benefits of cycling!

The WHO recommendations are also related to physical activity goals and mandatory walking. They are divided by age:

Between the ages of 5 and 17, moderate to continuous physical activity is recommended, at least 1 hour per day;

For adults, recommendations were spread throughout the week, with 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity endurance activity or 1 hour and 15 minutes of continuous-intensity activity.
